UK salary tax-year changelog

This page documents the tax-year data currently used by the take-home salary calculator. It is a transparency log for the calculator inputs, not tax advice.

Tax year 2026/27

Last verified:

Effective period: 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027

The calculator uses the 2026/27 Personal Allowance, Income Tax bands, Class 1 employee National Insurance thresholds, and student-loan repayment thresholds currently baked into the salary engine.

England, Wales, and Northern Ireland

England, Wales, and Northern Ireland share the same non-savings employment Income Tax bands in this calculator. National Insurance is calculated separately using UK-wide Class 1 employee thresholds and rates.

Scotland

Scotland uses its own starter, basic, intermediate, higher, advanced, and top Income Tax bands for employment income. National Insurance is still applied on the UK-wide basis.

Student loans

Student loan deductions use the selected Plan 1, Plan 2, Plan 4, Plan 5, and/or Postgraduate thresholds and rates from the same GOV.UK employer-threshold source as the rest of the payroll data.
